On Tuesday 25th July Ian Brickley and David Small - representing Harrogate Bowling Club - went to Bishop Monkton Bowls Club to play Pete Darbyshire and David Chapman in the County Men’s Pairs Final – Zone 4, Group C. 4-woods. 18 ends. The sun was beating down and there was no shade to be had.
The trial ends indicated a high-quality match was about to be played and so it was, with low scoring, tight ends alternating between the two teams.
The match begins.
The heads are tight.
And there's plenty of measuring!
"Hawkeye" Brickley gets it right.
A knowledgeable audience.
Let me think!
Harrogate entered the final end 11-10 up and during the course of the end the players moved the jack a “nail-biting” five times! Harrogate won the end by four woods, achieving a match score 15-10.
The match was played and ends in great spirit.
Our congratulations go to Ian and David and our commiserations to Pete and David.
The winners in each of the County zones will now play in the County quarter-finals to be played on Wednesday 3rd July at the York Railway Bowls & Social Club.
