On Thursday 17th August, Thirsk Athletic Bowls Club hosted the semi-final and final of the Elsdon Metcalfe Trophy The weather was kind to us and, as always, it was a pleasure to bowl on their excellent green.
This year twenty-four teams entered, a record l am led to believe. Perhaps inspired by HBC having the winner and runner up last year we had nine teams in the competition.
By the third round (last eight) we still had four teams left, however three fell to leave just one team to play on finals day at Thirsk.
HBC v. Bishop Monkton
Alas, Judith and I lost in the semi-final to the eventual winners Pete Darbyshire and Dave Chapman.
The final itself was an all Bishop Monkton cast, with Susie and Rex Whistler losing to Pete and Dave – who also won the trophy in 2021.
Our congratulations go to Bishop Monkton Bowling Club.
