The following report was kindly prepared by John Drake, Competitions Secretary.
"Our finals weekend was held on Saturday and Sunday 31st August and 1st September. The weather was warm and sunny on Saturday but overcast with a short period of rain on the Sunday morning but this soon cleared up and didn’t spoil the day. Twelve finals were held over the two days.
All matches were closely fought for the championship titles but two matches stood out and made a thrilling finale. The new Gordons competition between Paul Morton and Lee Coutts didn’t start well for Lee with Paul taking a commanding lead, however, Lee fought back and secured the title. The Horobin Pairs competition between Margaret Bailey and Jeff Jaycock playing Caroline Jaycock and Richard O’Halloran took 3 hours and went to a nail-biting finish with points being level at the 18th end, forcing an extra end. Margaret and Jeff won the end securing the title.
At the end of both days our President Derek Chappel presented cups and trophies to the winners and congratulated the runners up.
The Fleming Cup was won by Christine McWee and the President’s Cup was won by Gary Preston. Both winners are now entitled to represent the club in the “Champion of Champions” competitions in 2025.
