The Canning Cup is an annual competition that was established in 2008. The Gentlemen play The Ladies in rinks format (four players per team/2 woods). It's a very popular club event and normally requires all 8 rinks to be brought into use.
Gary Preston, Gents' Captain said.
"It was lovely to see 64 players on the green at the same time, enjoying a competitive but friendly match played in the best spirit."
The following report was kindly provided by Margaret Bailey, Ladies Captain.
"Once again we had a rain free afternoon which saw some incredible bowling from both the men’s and women’s teams.
The ladies are determined...
And so are the men.
The measure is needed.
Concentration writ large.
Assessing a head.
A good outcome for the ladies.
A jack on the edge of the ditch tests skills.
Husband v wife. 😀
But even the best of matches must end.
Margaret B. continues...
Everyone performed as well as they could on the narrower eight rinks and congratulations must go to the men who proved victorious overall.
Roll on next year when hopefully the ladies can repeat their victory of 2022."
The ladies - already looking forward to 2025
The atmosphere was a joyful one and many thanks go to those spectators who came to watch.
The afternoon ended with a lovely BBQ, organised by Pat and George Wise so our thanks to them.
Our chefs-for-the-day ready for the onslaught...
Our thanks go to Margaret Bailey and Gary Preston for organising this event and again to George and Pat Wise for co-ordinating the BBQ. And, as always, our thanks go to all those involved in making this yet another terrific club occasion.
