The J&L Bradley Trophy: A last wood victory.

The following report was provided by John Drake and Jeff Jaycock.

“The eleventh J&L Bradley Trophy competition took place on Saturday 10th August.

The Format

The “Bradley” is a sponsored three-woods mixed triples competition played in a round-robin format, leading to a final over 6 ends. On the day, we had ten (rather than twelve) teams taking part which meant each team had a bye - thus playing four instead of five games.

The teams were placed in two groups – the Red Group and the Blue Group – with five teams in each group and the winner of each group going forward to the final later in the day.

The Qualifiers

Play was threatened by an early heavy shower but, much to everyone’s relief, the start was only slightly delayed.

"Battle" commenced.

With the qualifying matches concluded the winning teams were confirmed to be:

Blue team - Lee Coutts, Les Bentley & Fiona Bentley.

Red team - David Small, Ian Brickley & Margaret Bailey.

The Final

And so the day continued with what turned out to be an exciting final.

A dog's best friend. 👍

The match went to the wire, scores being level on the penultimate end.

So close!

On the final end the Blue Team were holding 1 to win the match, with the Red Team delivering the final wood of the day. Ian B. (Red Team) considered his line and weight, bowled and managed to move the jack back to gain 2, winning the competition by 6-4. 👏👏👏

An excellent match is acknowledged with a handshake.

The trophy was presented to the winners by our President, Derek Chappel“

Our thanks go to our sponsor J&L Bradley, Plumbing & Heating Engineers; to our President Derek Chappel for presenting the trophy; to John Drake, Competition Secretary for organising the event and to all involved in making it a very enjoyable day.
